The Story Behind the Bean:
The Gatagua Factory, operated by the Gatagua Farmers Cooperative Society, has become a symbol of quality and perseverance. Overcoming challenges through dedication and partnership with Kahawa Bora, the cooperative has elevated its cup scores from 85 to a stunning 87-88+. This has been achieved through rigorous soil analysis, improved farming practices, and a steadfast commitment to sustainability. The SL28 and SL34 varietals, known for their deep root systems and resilience, flourish in the rich volcanic soil of Murang’a, delivering a coffee that truly embodies the spirit of Kenyan terroir.
Harvest and Processing:
Gatagua Muranga AA undergoes a meticulous processing journey, reflecting the cooperative’s unwavering focus on quality. Ripe cherries are selectively handpicked, pulped, and fermented for 48 hours before being washed and soaked for an additional 12 hours. Dried on raised beds for 14 to 21 days, the beans are carefully monitored to ensure a consistent, high-quality profile. The result is a coffee that captures the nuanced flavors of its origin, offering a cup that is both vibrant and balanced.
Kenyan Coffee at its Peak:
Kenyan coffees are renowned for their AA grade beans—large, dense, and packed with flavor. Gatagua Muranga AA is no exception. The combination of ideal growing conditions, expert processing, and the dedication of smallholder farmers has created a coffee that not only meets but exceeds the high standards of Kenyan coffee aficionados.
